63: Bill Huff & Prepping for ACPA 2019!

WELCOME TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST

This week Craig chats with Bill Huff - who is the Associate Director of Summer housing at Georgetown in DC - about his role as the conference chair for this year’s national ACPA 2019 conference, which takes place in Boston! Bill and Craig discuss Bill’s transition from growing up the midwest to living on the east coast as a professional, and branch into the always hectic work of summer housing and conference support - which is a wild never-ending revolving door of excitement. From there, we explore all of the ins and outs of planning a massive higher education conference, as well as the social justice-informed initiatives that influence all of the work that is done in community at ACPA. Craig will be a caucus leader at the conference this year and we discuss what that looks like as well! We hope you dig this conversation!

Katy Hamm hasn't been on the podcast in a few weeks, so we wanted to catch up a little bit on some boring tax stuff, implications regarding student loans, tuition waivers, and money in general. We also dig into sexual assault prevention and the role our nonprofit plays in this prevention work! We laugh, we cry, we get confused over all this tax stuff - it's weird. But hey! WELCOME TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST

20: Student Affairs Grad School Prep, part 1

A few weeks ago, I reached out to the Millennials in Student Affairs Facebook Group and shared an old blog post that I wrote three years ago with some tips on navigating and researching graduate programs in Student Affairs in Higher Education. From the response this post always receives, I wanted to also ask if any of my recent graduates/new professionals were willing to chat with me about their experiences in grad school. 6: Presence & Edu Tech Start-ups

WELCOME TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST

Strap yourself in! This one is a bit longer than usual - and that's because we spoke with not one, but FIVE people this week! And I use "we" because this week my partner, Katy Hamm, joins in on the conversation!

While on vacation to Orlando, Florida, we took a day or so and visited St. Petersburg, Florida and connected with some of our friends at Presence! Presence is a web and mobile software platform that helps institutions identify ways to increase student engagement, better allocate resources, enhance assessment practices, and promote opportunities, ultimately improving outcomes and retention.

4: Brittany Williams & Black Women's Brilliance

WELCOME BACK TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST!

Today's guest is the wonderful, Brittany Williams. Brittany is a PhD candidate at the University of Georgia, studying College Student Services. Brittany is a former Student Affairs Professional in Higher Education and shines a number of bright lights on some issues that are incredibly salient to her professional experiences as a black woman. Brittany brings up a number of topics during the next hour, including white privilege, social media activism, entering academia as a black woman, and the first generation struggle.
